The Big Foot boys golf team finished 16th at Monday’s Abbey Springs Invitational.

Big Foot posted a team score of 411. Badger won the title with a 321, followed by Edgerton with a 338, Wilmot with a 352, Lakeside Lutheran with a 365 and Elkhorn with a 374.

Twenty teams competed.

Leading the Chiefs was Lars Larsen with a 92 (45-47), followed by Steve Wolski with a 99 (49-50), Quintin Sharpe with a 102 (48-54), Jacob Watters with a 118 (53-65) and Tim Weiss with a 127 (65-62).

Larsen’s effort was a highlight, Big Foot coach Bob Sullivan said.

“I was very happy with the 92 by Lars Larsen,” he said. “This was his lowest score ever, and he played very consistently.

“The rest of the team played poorly and have not shown much improvement from week to week.”

Sullivan said it’s little details that seem to be preventing his squad from taking the next step forward.

“While I see some small improvements in a couple golfers, as a whole, we’re not much better than we were at the start of the season,” he said. “We’ve lacked consistency, as many of the players are struggling to find their swings.”

Big Foot competes Saturday at the Rock Valley conference Meet at Riverside Golf Course, Janesville, followed by a trip to Prairie Woods Monday to compete in the Ryder Cup event.

A top-two finish in the RVC South on Saturday is an achievable goal, Sullivan said.

“If our guys can improve on their course management and decision making and to not try and overpower the courses, I think we can end the season with some positives,” Sullivan said.
