Softball, soccer holding strong; tennis slams Jefferson in 7-0 match

After a bit of a slow start out of the gate, the Big Foot baseball team put together a three-win effort last week.
Big Foot opened play with a doubleheader split against visiting Clinton April 14, as it won 9-5 and lost 11-10, followed by two straight victories to close out the week.
The Chiefs posted a 3-2, nine-inning win April 16 over Evansville, followed by a 7-6 victory Tuesday afternoon at East Troy.
With the 3-1 week, Big Foot improved to 3-4 overall.
The Chiefs rallied from a 5-4 deficit in the seventh inning at East Troy with three runs in its final at bat to pull out the Rock Valley Conference win.
Zak Greco led the nine-hit attack with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, followed by Conor McCarthy with two hits and two RBI. Austin West collected three RBI and scored a run for the Chiefs.
Heath Dillenbeck picked up the win, as he worked the first 6-1/3 innings, and allowed four hits, two earned runs, four walks and struck out six. Mark Schauf and McCarthy pitched the final two-thirds to close out the game.
Schauf went the distance in Big Foot’s 3-2 win over Evansville earlier in the week. He allowed two earned runs, two hits, two walks and struck out five.
Jack Hereley and McCarthy each had two hits to lead the Chiefs, who scored single runs in the fourth, sixth and ninth innings to erase an early 2-0 deficit.
Big Foot hosts Edgerton Thursday, Badger Saturday and Brodhead next Tuesday, April 26.
Softball finishes 3-2
The Big Foot softball team won its first three games of the week, but dropped its next two, including a 5-4 decision Tuesday at East Troy.
The Chiefs now are 6-4 overall and 5-4 in the RVC.
Big Foot fell behind 5-2 to the Trojans before it rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t get any closer.
Morgan Stalker doubled twice and scored once, while Courtney Schoenbeck had two hits, a run scored and an RI. Katie Santeler added a two-run double for Big Foot.
Schoenbeck allowed three hits, two earned runs and two walks in three innings, followed by Riley Davis, who allowed one hit and struck out one in the final three innings.
Stalker and Olivia Briggs had the Chiefs’ only hits in a 7-0 loss Monday to visiting Evansville. Davis went the distance and was saddled with the loss.
Big Foot, which opened the week with a 10-0 win Friday over Clinton, followed that with a 5-2, 10-4 sweep Saturday over visiting Parkview.
Davis led the way in the opener with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI, followed by Stalker with two hits and two runs scored. Both also doubled.
Davis allowed six hits and struck out nine to earn the complete-game win.
A seven-run second inning was more than enough for the Chiefs in the second game. Stalker, Yesenia Gonzalez and Abby Snudden each had two hits to lead the way.
Big Foot hosts Edgerton Thursday, Milton Friday and is back to RVC action next Tuesday, April 26, against visiting Brodhead.
Soccer wins, ties
The Big Foot-Williams Bay girls soccer team overcame a 3-1 deficit with two late goals Tuesday night in a 3-3 tie wit Southern Lakes Conference foe Elkhorn.
The Chiefs scored at the 43-minute mark on a goal by Morgan Courier, assisted by Morgan Grunow to cut a 2-0 deficit in half.
After Elkhorn added another goal, Big Foot got back-to-back goals by Grunow (assisted by Courier) and Emily Woodside (unassisted) to force the tie.
Goalies Enna Peterson had seven saves, while Payton Courier had one.
Big Foot opened its week with a 5-1 RVC win April 14 over visiting Whitewater.
Courier and Grunow each had two goals, while Annalise Floody had a goal and an assist. Abby Peterson added two assists, while Heidi Pape and Penny Brooks each had one.
Peterson finished with five saves.
Big Foot travels to Edgerton Thursday, followed by a home nonconference matchup Monday against Beloit Memorial.
Tennis wins opener
The Big Foot-Williams Bay boys tennis team opened its season Monday with a 7-0 win over Jefferson.
Collecting singles victories were sophomore Jack Heidenreich at No. 1, 7-6 (1), 6-2; senior Liam McCarthy at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0; junior Alexis Duran at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0; and junior Evan Karabas at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1.
Winning doubles matches were seniors Adrian Hernandez and Michael Heidenreich at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2; juniors Logan Grunow and Hamilton Smith at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1; and senior Ben Malone and junior Nelson Tovar at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.
Big Foot hosts McFarland Thursday, travels to the East Troy Quadrangular Friday and competes at Watertown Luther Prep Monday.
