James L. Powers, 56, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends Sunday, March 6, 2016.
He was a 30-year resident of Elkhorn.
Jim was a gracious person with a great sense of humor who will be sadly missed. Jim appreciated all of the love, support and concern shown by so many as he battled this recent bout with cancer.
He is survived by his mother Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (nee Coughlin) and his siblings, Gerald (the late Sue) Powers and Karen (Alan) Krumnow. He is also survived by his former wife Karen Powers, of Elkhorn, and their children Melissa (Charles) Cherney, Nick (Katie) Powers and Katie Powers, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was a special great uncle to Tyler. Jim was also blessed to have Jim Pirkey and John Radzikinas as loyal friends since high school; he valued their friendships tremendously. He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence.
The family offers up a special thanks to the staff of St. Luke’s Medical Center, Sunrise Care Center and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16 at Bruskiewitz Funeral Home, 5355 W. Forest Home Ave., Milwaukee, with a Memorial Service at 4 p.m. Per Jim’s wishes, his body was donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin.
