On Friday, Feb. 26 from 4:30 p.m. through Saturday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m., local 8th grade and high school youth will unite together to bring awareness to the global and local famine crisis, by participating in a 30-hour famine.
Youth throughout Whitewater will begin fasting on Friday at noon. For 30 hours they will participate in a lock-in, sleep in cardboard boxes and participate in community service events to help unite the community in battling against hunger.
Students will be in a cardboard box house Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in front of the Living Word Fellowship Church, 212 W. Main St. in Whitewater. They will be collecting monetary donations and non-perishable food donations for the Whitewater Pantry. One hundred percent of the funds will be given to the upcoming Do Something MobilePack event coming to Whitewater on April 2. For more information about MobilePack visit www.WhitewaterUCC.

What it’s like to live in a cardboard box? Local participants are certain that it’s not any fun – it’s cold and long cold days most likely feel like weeks. Join the local effort by donating while all 8th grade and high school students are welcome to join the experience.
The 30-hour Famine will begin and end at First United Methodist Church, 145 S. Prairie St., Whitewater. There are at least four, if not more church youth groups involved in the event and plenty of room for more.
For more information call (262) 473-2131. Pick up next week’s Whitewater Register for coverage of the event.
