Whitewater High School’s boys basketball team had a three-game stretch this past week which started hot but then sizzled off as the games wore on. The Whippets entered with a 6-10 overall record going into its home contest against Edgerton on Feb. 11.

The two teams played two tight halves as Whitewater led, 25-24, going into halftime. Then in the second half, a 27-24 advantage propelled the Whippets to its 62-58 victory.

Edgerton had the top-two scorers in the game with 15 apiece while the Whippets countered with both Daniel Fuller and Tyrus Wintlend going for 11 each. Bryce Parrish ended up fouling out, but not before he finished with nine points.

The Whippets out-shot Edgerton from the free throw line, going 21-of-27 to Edgerton’s 10-of-15. Two days later the team left its home and traveled to Badger.

Badger had a six-point lead going into halftime, and then eventually handed the Whippets, 53-41. It was Whitewater’s opponent who again had the top-two scorers in the game, with 21 and 17 points, respectively.

Badger shot 10-of-19 from the charity stripe compared to the Whippets’ 5-of-7. The 3-point line showcased a bigger disparity, as Badger hit 11 triples against the Whippets’ two.

Fast forward three more days and Whitewater hit the road once again, this time playing Evansville. No box score was found, but the final score of the game was Evansville 63, Whitewater 55.

The Whippets are now 7-12 on the season heading into its final two games of the regular season. The first comes at 7:15 p.m. on Friday against McFarland at home.

McFarland will enter with a 12-8 record overall and is one spot ahead of Whitewater in the Rock Valley North Conference standings. Then in the team’s final game, Whitewater will be hosting again with another 7:15 p.m. tip-time on Feb. 25 against East Troy.

East Troy currently sports a 16-4 record overall and is a perfect 14-0 in Rock Valley Conference play.
