The Elkhorn Area High School girls basketball team recently played its worst game of the season after playing its best game of the season.

Elkhorn lost 47-18 Jan. 29 in a Southern Lakes Conference game at Burlington after losing 58-34 Jan. 22 in a SLC game at home against Wilmot.

The Elks play a SLC game Friday at Badger, and play a SLC game at home against Union Grove Feb. 9.

“Burlington, we didn’t show-up,” Elks coach Todd Frohwirth said. “We played without energy the whole game.”

The Elks (0-17, 0-10 SLC) trailed the Demons 30-13 at halftime, and scored just five points in the second half. Burlington outscored the Elks 17-5 in the second half.

Carleigh Ramos led the Elks with nine points. Jessa Burling scored 10 and led the Demons (9-8, 7-3 SLC).

Frohwirth’s assessment of the Elks’ play against Wilmot is as forthright as his assessment of the Elks’ play against Burlington.

“We played our best game of the year against Wilmot,” Frohwirth said. “It all came together. We made some shots, rebounded the ball and just played a solid game.”

Wilmot is undefeated (10-0) in SLC play this season and is 15-2 overall. The Elks trailed the Panthers by eight at halftime, 26-18.

“Megan Skoczylas played great and attacked the rim very well,” Frohwirth said. “Payton Christensen played her best game as well. Taylor Mair has played consistent all year and had another solid game.

“We ran out of gas with about six minutes left in the game, down by 10 or so.”

Wilmot outscored the Elks 32-16 in the second half. Christensen led the Elks with nine points. Wilmot’s Delaney Sjong led all scorers with a game-high 15 points.
