Speaking out

      Whitewater City Council Chambers overflows with people at Tuesday night’s informational meeting hosted by the city’s Community Development Authority regarding local grocery needs since Sentry closed last month. Many residents and business owners used the opportunity to speak including Marie Koch (inset) who said the owner of the Piggly Wiggly store in Milton “is very interested in working with our community if we can find a building smaller than the Sentry building.” Resident Jerome Laurent, a retired UW-Whitewater economist said if another grocer is brought into the city “it better be one that does a better job of pricing… Whatever comes in here must have some sense about pricing or they’re going to lose money.” Pick up next week’s Whitewater Register for the complete story.
