HAROLD R. SHORTENHAUS

DE 1'7'16 OBIT Shortenhaus      Harold R. Shortenhaus, 70, of Delavan, passed away Jan. 2, 2016, at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.

He was born in Buffalo Center, Iowa, Oct. 18, 1945, to Harry and Gladys (Kuiper) Shortenhaus. Harold married Karen Boyer on April 4, 1969, in Beloit. He was an attorney for many years and belonged to the Wisconsin State Bar Association. Harold served on the Delavan City Council, the Christian League for the Handicapped, was a municipal judge in Delavan for three years, and was a board member of the Walworth County Metropolitan Sewerage District. He also enjoyed playing cards and rebuilding and flying his own plane, and was part of the Palmyra Flying Club.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen; three children, Scott (Jennifer) Shortenhaus, of Indianapolis, James (Libby) Shortenhaus, of Chicago, and Amy (Jonathan) Gunderson, of Ventura, Calif.; six grandchildren, Adeleigh, Piper, Britta, Ella, Abigail and Sage; mother, Gladys, of Albert Lea, Minn., two sisters, Priscilla (Bruce) Schoeman, of Wilmar, Minn., and Barbara (Steve) McKenney, of Albert Lea, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Kay Boyer, of Lancaster, Penn.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry, and his grandparents.

Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Community Church, N2620 Harris Road, Williams Bay. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. A private burial will take place at Floral Lawn Cemetery in South Beloit, Ill. Memorials can be directed to Calvary Community Church or the Christian League for the Handicapped.
