Town to add pier at Community Park

The Town of Delavan will add a new wood pier at Community Park for the coming summer. The cost of the pier is estimated to be $24,786, $24,000 of which will be covered by unallocated funds from the 2015 budget.

Supervisor Chris Marsicano said the new pier will provide much better access to Community Park to boaters. The park has a boat launch and a small fishing pier but nowhere for boaters to dock so they can picnic at the park or use any of its other amenities.

“We can rent slips, improve the park and make the park more attractive,” Marsicano said. “It will be another asset for us.”

Marsicano said the actual process for renting slips and a possible ordinance prohibiting parking without renting will come later. Marsicano said the park committee was looking at a wood pier rather than metal because wood piers are generally more stable for public use and the estimates came in lower for wood.

Marsicano made the motion to use $24,000 of unallocated funds from the 2015 budget to cover most of the cost and said the remaining amount can come from somewhere in the 2016 budget, probably the park committee fund.

Lakeland letter of credit

The letter of credit Lakeland Animal Shelter took out toward completion of its new facility on Highway 67 was reduced from $161,000 to $8,050. Administrator John Olsen said the majority of the work on the septic system and storm water basin for the new facility is done and there was no further need for such a large letter of credit amount.

Posting requirements

The board passed a resolution stating that the only places the town is required to post notices for meetings is at Town Hall and on the town’s website. Marsicano said the resolution is a response to a new state law.

Supervisor Barb Militello said the town will continue to post courtesy notices at all the places it has been doing so including Maxi One, Piggly Wiggly, Walworth State Bank and Lakefront Mobil. Town Chairman Ryan Simons said the new resolution makes it legal if the town is unable to make a posting for a meeting due to inclement weather.

 Other business

A conditional use permit was approved that will allow Alexis Wolf to open a new art manufacturing business and residence inside the former Shadowlawn Pottery building at Highway F and Mound Road. Supervisor Kim Jedlicka said a retail store is part of the future plan for the business.

The board passed a resolution to submit a claim to Asphalt Contractors in the amount of $19,222.45 for defective work and necessary repairs of road work done in 2014 on Briggs Road, Grassie Place and Sutter Avenue.

The board approved raising the pay for fire and rescue responders to $15 per hour from the former rate of $13.

Joey Torkelson was appointed to the park building committee, and Kevin Kiefhafer was appointed to the park and tourism committee.
