Annual fundraising event set for 1 p.m., Sunday

A local effort aimed at addressing hunger is returning this weekend in Whitewater for a milestone 25th anniversary.
By adopting a resolution, the Common Council on Sept. 15 recognized the organizers behind the local iteration of CROPWalk, a fundraiser that addresses food shortages and poverty.
This year’s CROPWalk will take place Sunday, Oct. 4, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1225 W. Main St. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m., and the walk itself takes place at 1 p.m.
Last year, participants in the local CROPWalk raised more than $3,000. Proceeds benefit local and global food pantry efforts.
In other recent business, the Common Council:
- Discussed rezoning a residential property at 228 S. Church St. to a technical designation of residential overlay district. If the requested change is approved on a second reading Oct. 6, property owner Clarence Kozlowski will have the green light to allow up to six unrelated persons to live within the home.
- Authorized transferring a beer and wine license to applicant George Christon, who serves as the agent for Gus’ Pizza Palace. The eatery has relocated in the community to 135-139 W. Main St.
- Adopted an ordinance that allows for the creation of alternate positions on the Library Board. The alternates, who could be comprised of council members or resident representatives, would fill in, as needed, to ensure there is a quorum when meetings take place.
- Approved granting an easement agreement near the city’s wastewater treatment facility. The easement will facilitate a fiber extension project that is underway.
