Golfers stymied by Waterford

It turned into “one of those days,” according to coach Steve Fisher, for the Elkhorn Area High School girls golf team Sept. 3 in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet against Waterford at Rivermoor Golf Club in Waterford.

The Elks struggled to place the ball in or close to the fairways on the tree-lined course at Rivermoor and lost 233-211 to the Wolverines.

“It was a struggle,” Fisher said. “We don’t seem to have too much success over there at Rivermoor.”

Elkhorn’s Jessica Barrett scored in the 40s through the season’s early matches and saw her score balloon to a 53 over nine holes at Rivermoor.

Gabi Timmer shot a 58, Grace Franz a 60 and Hailey Czubernaut a 62 for Elkhorn. Carlie Hanson finished at 65.

Aubrie Torhorst led Waterford, and all golfers, with a 48.

“The girls are working hard,” Fisher said. “It’s not for lack of effort. We just have to put together the consistency we need.”
