More than 40 State Award winners and Honorable Mentions were announced at the closing of the Wisconsin Regional Art Program Exhibit at the Whitewater Arts Alliance’s Cultural Arts Center. The winners will exhibit their winning pieces at the State WRAP show in Madison at the Pyle Center from Aug. 15 through Sept. 26.
The juror and featured guest artist at the Whitewater show was Thomas Jewell, a professional artist from Fort Atkinson. He reviewed more than 149 pieces for the show, which featured a variety of artists from Wisconsin exhibiting art in a variety of media including 3D and photography.
Joyce Follis, coordinator of the show, said it was very interesting and unique.
“It always amazes me that we have so many fine artists in southern Wisconsin. I believe we had at least 25 new artists from previous years who displayed their work. I received many compliments on the show,” Follis said.
The State Award Winners are: June Buchanan, Jan Crowley, Rebecca Herb, Eunice Eide, Joyce Follis, Sylvia Linton, Kay Meyer, Kate Forest, Jan Wood, Virginia Epps, Sophie Hansen, Kathy Gibbs, Donnette Behar, Hannah Nickolai, Silvia Cavagnero, Dawn Hunter, Karolyn Alexander, Dorothy Spurgat, Everett Long and Betty Willmore.
Honorable Mention winners are: Judy Peppard, Agnes Handwerk, Terrence Doeler, Donna Miller, Mary Somers, Tricia Sloan, Sandra Vobian, Susan Porubcan, Kim Wepking-Richards, Jeanne Hannula, Meghan Barrett, Susan Behrens, Linda Davis, Shirley Diedrich, Kelly Hausknecht, Anne Irish, Jane Johann, Jeff McDonald, Shirley Matthews and Robin Taylor.
“The WAA is honored to host this exhibit each year. It brings it an array of talent from the area, and even more visitors to our gallery,” Whitewater Arts Alliance President Linda Long said. “We really appreciate Joyce Follis’ willingness to chair this event each year.”
The Wisconsin Regional Art Program was established to encourage Wisconsin citizens with a serious interest in art – people who make art purely for the love of it, rather than for fame and fortune. The purpose of WRAP is to encourage nonprofessional artists to develop their abilities.
