A strong effort at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 regional level the previous week put the East Troy girls soccer team within two wins of a state tournament berth.

That didn’t seem to matter to visiting Grafton.

The Black Hawks scored three first-half goals to take control last Thursday en route to a 5-1 win in a sectional semifinal matchup.

East Troy, which was making its first trip to the sectional, finished the spring at 14-9 overall. Grafton fell to three-time defending state champion Catholic Memorial 4-1 two days later to close its year at 9-10-1 overall.

The Trojans’ lone goal in the semifinal came in the second half, as Brianna Casper scored off an assist from Brianna Probst. East Troy goalie Jessica Gulig finished with seven saves.

Results of All-Rock Valley Conference voting will run next week.
