Officer Boomer set to cheer on participants
The Whitewater Police Department is set to host its 3rd Annual K9 5K/10K Run/Walk event – where participants are encouraged to run/walk with their dog – on Saturday, May 30, with proceeds to benefit the department’s K9 unit, including officer Boomer.
The race will begin at Cravath Lakefront Park, 341 S. Fremont St. in Whitewater with registration taking place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
There will be two events participants can choose from: a kiddie, one-mile sprint for kids 1 to 12 years old, set to begin at 8:30 a.m.; the 5K run/walk and 10K run/walk will begin at 9 a.m.
The cost to participate is $10 for the kiddie one-mile sprint; $15 per person (with a team of three or more people) or $20 (individual) for the 5K walk/run; and $20 per person (with a team of three or more people) or $25 (individual) for the 10K walk/run.
Chip-timing will be provided by Absolute Race Timing. The top three finishers in multiple age categories will receive a race medal while all participants will receive a long-sleeve t-shirt, donated by Whitewater Manufacturing, along with one of the department’s new K9 Unit trading cards.
There were 198 race participants with approximately 60 dogs at last year’s event, according to event organizers Jim and Heidi, who said they are looking forward to an increase in participation with this year’s event in order to continue to fund our K9 Unit.
As a bonus, Whitewater Police Officer Joe Matteson and K9 Officer Boomer will be on hand at this year’s race to cheer on the race participants and their canine companions.
