It was the Tider Invite in Edgerton late last week where both the girls and boys track teams from Whitewater High School showed they are heading the right direction in preparation for upcoming conference meets.
At the May 8 Tider, the boys finished third out of 12 teams while the girls finished a respectable sixth. Overall, it was a strong showing for the Whippets after early season challenges of trying to get full teams on the track at once.
Kailey Reynolds and Sarah Ziolkowski were the two highest finishers for the ladies. Reynolds finished second in the long jump and the 200-meter dash, falling only to the reigning state champion in the latter. For the long jump, Reynolds completed a personal best at 16 feet-10.75 inches.
Ziolkowski on the other hand finished second in the 800-meter race with a personal best time of 2:24.66, a Top 10 mark for Whitewater’s record books.
Abby King finished third in the 3200-meter race, besting her fastest time by 20 seconds while Anna Lucht made some nice strides in both the shot and the disc events at the invite.
The Whitewater High School boys had some very strong performances as well at the Tider, including victories in the long jump, high jump and pole vault.
Keagen Stonewerth won the pole vault, clearing 14 feet. Xhonatan Shahollari, jumped a personal best of 6 feet-1 inch, winning that portion of the meet. Following the victory, Shahollari put his cape back on and took third in the triple jump at 40 feet-9.5 inches.
Mark Cuevas won the long jump with a distance of 19 feet-10 inches. He also took second in the 200-meter race and was a part of the winning, 4 x 200-meter relay team with Stonewerth, Ashton Caputo and Connor Rupke.
