The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Southeast Region will have a public involvement meeting to discuss proposed improvements to Highway 12 in Walworth County.
The meeting will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the training room at the Walworth County Public Works Department, W4097 County Road NN, Elkhorn.
The objective of the meeting is to familiarize the public with the purpose and need of the project, provide information about proposed improvements and obtain input from local residents.
The meeting will be conducted in an open house format. No formal presentations will be made. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning the project. Project plans, location maps, and other exhibits will be on display to illustrate the work in detail. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.
Improvements being planned as part of the project include resurfacing about 10 miles of Highway 12 between highways 67 and 50 in Elkhorn and Lake Geneva. In addition to the mainline resurfacing, the structure that carries Springfield Road over Highway 12 and two bridges that carry Highway over County NN will be replaced because of ongoing deterioration of the existing bridges and deficient vertical clearances. The Como Road bridge over Highway 12 is also being evaluated for either abandonment or replacement. Several other structures throughout the corridor will receive of improvements based on current standards and the condition of each structure. Improvements include deck overlays, replacing wingwalls and painting.
Construction along the segment of the Highway 12 corridor is anticipated for 2021.
