MARJORIE PETERSON

Marjorie Peterson (nee Seitzinger), 92, born Nov. 7, 1922, in Blencoe, Iowa, passed away peacefully April 2, 2015, in Barrington, Ill., surrounded by her loving family.

Marjorie was a resident of Prairie View at the Garlands of Barrington. She and her loving husband, Maurice, met at Iowa State University and were married on Aug. 17, 1943. They raised their family in Walworth. Being involved with her community was always important to her, and she did it well. Even with five children and her full schedule, she always made time for her love of reading. Many times this meant sessions at 4 a.m., especially if she was preparing to present a book review to her morning circle at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Walworth. Her optimistic nature was reinforced by her many readings by Norman Vincent Peale, most notably “The Power of Positive Thinking.” She did not know how to complain. This virtue, along with her unwavering faith made her truly an inspiration to many. She also had a beautiful balance of wit and charm. She loved her bridge game and all the ladies who were involved.

Marjorie was president and an active member of the Walworth Women’s Club for many years. In addition to her service at the local level, she served as an officer with the Wisconsin General Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was very involved as legislative chairman in Wisconsin when the drinking age was changed from 18 to 21, tort reform was implemented, and the state seat belt law was passed.

She was extremely supportive of the interests of her children as well as her husband. She would travel across the country to music contests, tennis matches and cattle shows. She was always there to help her children prepare for and wrap up their 4-H fair projects. Her support for the farming industry, through the Wisconsin Cattlewomen’s Association, lasted into her 80s.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Beverly (Norm) Lake, Debbie (Tom) Herman, Maurice Peterson Jr., Jan (Tim) Romenesko, and Julia (Steve) Tomaszewski; grandchildren Michelle Piel and Robert Piel Jr., Lou Aguilera, Gretchen Herman, Callie, Connor and Ryan Romenesko, and Elizabeth, Joshua and Matthew Tomaszewski; great grandchildren Gabriela and Lucas Aguilera, and Ella and Amelia Piel-Steffen; and brother, Frank (Bonnie) Seitzinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Maurice Peterson; parents, Bert and Stella Seitzinger; and brothers, Edward (Jeanette) Seitzinger and Rex (Artis) Seitzinger.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook), Barrington, Ill. Burial will be private in Walworth Cemetery, Walworth.
