Boys finish in third place

Ready or not, the boys and girls track season is off and running for the East Troy High School squads.
And, though it’s early and indoors, both teams have plenty of reason for optimism.
The East Troy girls finished first, while the boys were third at last Thursday’s 38th annual Cudahy Packer Invitational.
East Troy’s girls finished with 201 points, well ahead of second-place Badger’s 114 and Madison West’s 87. Rounding out the team scores were Cudahy-St. Francis with 45 points, Kenosha St. Joseph’s with 31, Washington Park with 29, Tenor-Veritas with 14, Saint Anthony with five and St. Francis with three.
On the boys’ side, Badger was first with 151 points, followed by Nicolet with 118, East Troy with 91, Cudahy-St. Francis with 67 and Oak Creek with 50.
The rest of the team scores were St. Francis with 30 points, Kenosha St. Joseph’s with 25, Saint Anthony with five and Tenor-Veritas with four.
East Troy won six girls’ events, while the boys were first in two to highlight the afternoon.
Leading the girls were sophomores Hope Schneider and Callie Vogel, who each won two events.
Schneider was first in the 55 (8.05) and the high jump (5-2), while Vogel won the 200 (30.54) and the long jump (13-9 3/4).
Other first-place finishes were turned by the 1,600-meter relay team (5:30.94) ad sophomore Hannah Buchholtz in the pole vault (7-6).
Also scoring points for the girls were recorded by senior Sydney Scadden, second in the 55-high hurdles (10.1) and third in the 55-intermediate hurdles (10.12); sophomore Tori Miller, second in the 55-intermediate hurdles (9.97), third in the 55-high hurdles (10.13) and fifth in the triple jump (26-11); the 4×815-meter relay team, second (10:22.04); the six-lap relay team, second (2:21.86);
Junior Katrina Santos, second in the 400 (1:10.3) and second in the long jump (13-8 1/2); senior Katie Hodges, second in the 800 (2:44.53); Schneider, second in the 200 (30.78); junior Amanda Bustillos, second in the two-mile run (14:13.44); sophomore Heather Vivian, second in the high jump (4-10) and fifth in the 800 (2:49.1); sophomore Ashley Day, second in the pole vault (7-0);
Junior M.E. Dodge, second in the shot put (32-2) and fifth in the 400 (1:12.17); sophomore Autumn Rhode, third in the pole vault (6-0); senior Erin Parr, third in the two-mile (14;13.48); freshman Katie Zewiske, third in the triple jump (28-11 3/4); and Vogel, sixth in the 55 (8.28).
Claiming titles for the East Troy boys were senior Nathan Nguyen in the 400 (57.89) and senior Miles Kilpin in the shot put (48-8).
Other point scorers for the Trojans were sophomore Truman Kent, second in the 55-intermediate hurdles (8.73); the 20-lap relay team, second 8:43.53); senior Charlie Kutschenreuter, second in the 800 (2:18.32); the 12-lap relay team, second (4:32.42); sophomore Billy Dominski, third in the 55-high hurdles (9.11) and third in the 55-intermediate hurdles (9.09);
Senior Brody Kazik, fourth in the mile (5:12.37) and fourth in the two-mile (11:49.28); sophomore Evan Harding, fourth in the 800 (2:21.42); the six-lap relay team, sixth (2:10.16); sophomore Jon Radloff, sixth in the pole vault (9-6) and seventh in the 400 (1:02.69); and junior Zach Brinkman, sixth in the shot put (39-1 1/2).
Trojans second in opener
Both East Troy squads finished second in the small school division of the Nelson-Daniel Classic March 20 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Stoughton won the girls team title with 71.5 points, followed by East Troy with 70, Jefferson with 36, Fort Atkinson with 35.5 and Monona Grove with 35. Twenty-two teams competed.
In the 22-team boys division, Pewaukee was first with 80 points, followed by East Troy with 47.5, Monona Grove with 47, Rockford Christian with 45 and Lake Mills with 41.
Finishing first were the girls 3,200-meter relay team (10:32.41); Schneider in the high jump (5-3); Santos in the triple jump (33-11); Kutschenreuter in the 800 (2:05.19); and Kilpin in the shot put (52-7 1/2).
