Whitewater High School gymnast Kelly O’Hara is only a junior, which means next year the team will get back an accomplished gymnast fresh off of her second state appearance. O’Hara represented Whitewater at state last week, finishing with 2nd team All-State honors.
After struggling a bit last year due to it being her first state appearance, O’Hara was much more polished this time around, according to her coach.
Following her beam routine, O’Hara went on to the floor exercises, her specialty. Coming in with a 9.233, O’Hara took 10th place in the event, and she followed that up with a 8.917 in her vault, good for 15th place.
Her bars routine was special, the coach said, earning O’Hara an 8.633, which would have been good enough for 6th place if she had qualified for it during regional competition.
Coach Jennifer Galbrecht said O’Hara’s performance on the bars was “Her cleanest routine of the season.”
She finished the all-around competition with a 34.667, which placed her 12th overall.
O’Hara was also recently voted 1st Team All Conference along with all of her other achievements.
“She has had an amazing season and has potential for even more success in the future as a senior next year,” Galbrecht said.
