Sixteen artists, including Karolyn Alexander Tscharnack and 15 of her painting friends, will exhibit their art in March at “A Potpourri of Artistry: Artwork from Sixteen Fabulous Women” at the Whitewater Arts Alliance’s Cultural Arts Center in March.
The show began March 6 and will be open Fridays through Sundays at the CAC through March 22.
Tscharnack, a local and well-known artist, has been painting since April of 2003. Her art has appeared in many galleries and exhibits in southeastern Wisconsin and in Door County. Her mixed water-media painting “Happy Hollyhocks” was juried into the Hardy Gallery’s 52nd Annual Juried Exhibit in 2014 and also received the People’s Choice votes at the Annual Whitewater Arts Alliance Members Show at the Cultural Arts Center and was made into note cards.
“Keep your brush wet! Just like playing the piano or golf, improvement in painting requires practice,” Tscharnack said.
In addition to Tscharnack’s work, art of or by the following artists will be on display: Jan Crowley, of Whitewater; Varla Bishop, of Johnson Creek; Shirley Matthews, of Whitewater; Maggie Stetter, of Whitewater; Shirley Wickersheimer, of Whitewater; Kathy Gibbs, of Janesville; Joyce Follis, of Whitewater; Louise Fuerstenberg, of Whitewater; Mary Anne Darner, of Fort Atkinson; Tricia Sloan, of Watertown; Silvia Linton, of Elkhorn; Judy Dern, of Whitewater; Sherry Thurner, of Janesville; Claudia Fitzgerald, of Janesville; and Doris Hanson, of Whitewater.
“We are so happy to have an exhibit that showcases the work of so many area artists,” Linda Long, president of the Whitewater Arts Alliance, said. “Karolyn Alexander is widely admired as an artist and a teacher, so we know this will be something very special.”
The Cultural Arts Center is located at 402 W. Main St., Whitewater, in the historic White building near the Birge Fountain. Parking is available behind the building and an elevator is available for access from the parking lot entrance.
