The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Chancellor’s String Quartet will be featured in a benefit concert to raise funds for educational scholarships at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 15 at the historic Bassett House, 708 W. Main St., Whitewater. Tickets are $20 donation per person and are tax deductible.
The program will include Mozart’s Quartet No. 4 in C major, K. 157, Dvorak’s Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 12 and Chicago-Lucerne by Amos Gillespie.
The concert is sponsored by Delta Kappa Gamma International, Alpha Gamma, Whitewater Chapter. When ordering tickets, make checks payable to DKG–Alpha Gamma. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The Whitewater chapter is comprised of practicing and retired women educators in the area. Scholarships will support nontraditional female students obtaining their degree in education.
The UW-Whitewater Chancellor’s Quartet was established in 2007 as the flagship, student string chamber music ensemble by Benjamin Whitcomb. The ensemble membership of is selected by the string faculty and each member receives a scholarship, weekly coaching and numerous performance opportunities.
The Chancellor’s Quartet performs on campus numerous times each year for various formal and official events, for audiences including Governor Jim Doyle, Chancellor Richard Telfer, and the Board of Regents. They were invited to perform at the 2013 WMEA state conference, and this year they will perform on tour at the Chicago Cultural Arts Center.
Current members of the ensemble are Mackenzie Wiley and Jacob Puccio on violin, Rena Blazek on viola, and Philllip Bregrant on cello.
