The Whitewater High School girls basketball team will attempt to complete an undefeated season after earning a trip to the Div. III state championship. The Lady Whippets took down Dodgeville, 57-54 today in the sectional final at Middleton High School.

Sophomore Myriama Smith-Traore led the Whippets scoring with 22 points. Sarah Schumacher – who fouled out midway through the fourth quarter – had 17 points, while her sister, Rebekah Schumacher added 16. Kailey Reynolds grabbed 10 rebounds in the game, a high number compared to her season average, to help Whitewater’s time of possession effort.

While the team struggled from beyond the arc they were nearly unstoppable from the free throw line on the day in a matchup that stayed within a 3- to 6-point margin throughout most of the game.

Whitewater will take on the winner of the Waupan/Kettle Moraine Lutheran game at the Resch Center in Green Bay Friday, March 13. Tip-off is set for 9:05 a.m.
