‘Paint the Gym Pink’ set for Friday’s game against McFarland

The Lady Whippets improved to 18-0 on their season with a 61-28 victory over Edgerton Feb. 5. After taking a 34-11 halftime lead, Whitewater upped the defensive intensity in the third quarter, only allowing three points, before easing up pressure in the fourth.
It was again the Schumacher siblings turn to hold control of the game. Rebekah Schumacher made four shots from behind the arc, helping her reach 20 points on the night. Sarah Schumacher added 13 points while Kailey Reynolds and Myriama Smith-Traore each had eight.
The Whippets hit on seven three-point shots overall, and only shot six free throws. While it would have been good to see more foul shooting, it’s hard to criticize a 33-point victory and complete shutdown of an opponent for an entire quarter.
Winning games at this point in the season is important to secure a good position for the postseason. The No. 1 ranked Whitewater High School girls basketball team, according to Wissports.net, can use opportunities such as this to get the bench players on the floor and the starters some rest as the regular season winds down.
‘Paint the Gym Pink’
The second annual “Paint the Gym Pink” event will take place Friday, Feb. 13 when the girls basketball team takes on McFarland.
The event helps raise money for breast cancer awareness. Shirts with “Tough Guys Wear Pink” have been sold in advance for $10; a limited quantity of shirts will also be sold at the game.
Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m. Friday at Whitewater High School.
