Doubleheader yields nearly identical scores

The Lake Geneva Badger basketball teams swept a home double header against Delavan-Darien by nearly identical scores last Friday. The girls defeated the Comets 67-35 in the first game, and the boys beat the Comets 69-35 in the nightcap.
The boys game was close throughout the first half with Badger (10-3, 8-1 Southern Lakes Conference) leading just 27-25 at the half. Badger came out of the break firing on all cylinders offensively and the Comets could not score as Badger blew the game wide open with a 29-0 third quarter. The Comets did not score in the second half until there were just over three minutes left in the game.
“We took care of the ball, got good shots, and really pushed it in transition,” Badger coach Forrest Larson said.
“They had some open looks that they did not make, plus they struggled to handle the ball and had a string of turnovers,” Larson said. “They are much better than they played in the second half.”
Badger converted 11 three-pointers, four each by Bryant Sontag and Jacob Berhorst. Berhorst led the Badgers with 21 points. Sontag had 17 and Joe Freeman added 10. William Brown led the Comets with nine.
The Badgers also beat Westosha Central (7-9, 2-5) on the road 65-49 on Jan. 27. Badger led just 18-16 after one quarter and 32-28 at the half. Badger led by eight by the end of the third quarter and blew the game open by winning the fourth 17-9.
Lincoln Wieseman led the Badgers with 21 points. Berhorst added 16 and Chase Kruger had 10. Ronald Hall led the Falcons with 19.
Badger hosts Burlington on Thursday night and travels to Slinger on Saturday before visiting Union Grove next Tuesday.
Girls beat Comets
The Badger girls ended a four-game losing streak with two wins last week. The Badgers beat Delavan-Darien last Friday. Badger (10-7, 6-3) led 14-13 after one and took control with a 15-2 second quarter to lead 29-15 at the half. After a relatively even third quarter, Badger dominated the fourth 19-5.
Jessica Kozlowski led the Badgers with 13 points. Lily Quinn and Briana Flower added 11 each and Jennifer Freeman had 10. Kenna Timmerman led the Comets (2-13, 0-10) with 10.
Badger also defeated Muskego (3-13) 51-47 in a non-conference match-up on Jan. 27. Badger jumped to a 17-8 lead after one but Muskego fought back and Badger led just 28-26 at the half. Both teams scored 11 in the third quarter and Badger held on winning the fourth 12-10.
Quinn led Badger with 18. Flower added 11 and Freeman had 10. Maddy Harrison led Muskego with 15.
Before those two wins, the Badgers had lost four in a row and five of their last six to fall to 8-7.
Badger lost to Big Foot (10-5) at home 57-55 in overtime on Jan. 19. Badger led 19-15 at the half and was outscored 19-15 in the fourth quarter after an even third quarter. Big Foot won the overtime 11-9.
Badger was led by Quinn’s 19 points. Freeman added 12 and Sam Tisa had 10. Olivia Briggs led Big Foot with 17. Morgan Courier had 14 and Payton Courier added 13.
Badger lost to Kenosha Tremper (10-4) on the road 49-43 on Jan. 20. Tremper jumped out to an 18-2 lead but Badger outscored the Trojans 29-14 in the middle two quarters to trail just 32-31 heading into the fourth quarter. Tremper pulled away with a 17-12 final frame.
Quinn led Badger with 14 points. Flower added 10. Amari Whittington led Tremper with 15.
Badger dropped a SLC match-up with Wilmot (7-7, 5-3) on the road 59-53 on Jan. 23. Badger led 12-10 after one but trailed 22-21 at the half. The game was tied at the end of three and Wilmot won the fourth quarter 24-18.
Quinn again led the Badgers with 12. Flower added 10. Sam Kirk led Wilmot with 12.
Badger hosted Burlington on Tuesday and travels to Union Grove on Friday.
