Hazel Ridge Road and intersection by West Side Elementary among high-priority items in capital improvement plan

The City of Elkhorn’s Municipal Services and Utilities Committee voted unanimously in favor of authorizing the new city engineer to prepare a task order for a list of road projects projected to be completed in 2015.
Among the list of projects are Hazel Ridge Road, Walworth Street, Sunset Drive, Monica Street, Maria Drive and Walworth Street. Overall, City Engineer Paul Vanhenkelum estimated the total cost of the projects package to be about $1.56 million, though he said factors could change this number slightly during the design phase for the projects. If that occurred, he said he would be returning to the committee to provide for further information.
City Administrator Sam Tapson said the estimated cost for the list of projects is lower than originally determined, a major difference being a roughly $400,000 drop in the cost of repairs to Hazel Ridge Road.
