The Whitewater Historical Society recently announced a program and exhibit revolving around its recent acquisition of 50 pieces of local pottery. The event will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Depot Museum, 301 W. Whitewater St. in Whitewater with an informational program slated for 2 to 2:45 p.m.
The acquisition of the collection is of importance to the museum and community, according to the society, as it preserves an identification of mid-19th century Whitewater Potteries of which the city had five.
Until it acquired this collection, the Whitewater Historical Society did not have any pieces of Whitewater Pottery. The society collection consists of various jugs, crocks in several sizes, flower vases and of special interest, a foot warmer and large pottery bowl.
The exhibit and program is offered free of charge and is open to the public.
