The Whippet boys soccer team has been on a roll this season. After spending most of the year chasing a conference title, it was time to meet up with conference heavyweight Big Foot in a match for all the marbles. Unfortunately, the game turned in Big Foot’s favor quickly and Whitewater was sent home after suffering a 3-0 defeat.

“The Chiefs were able to play faster than us tonight,” coach Rene Menager said after the game. “(We) just fell short against a well prepared team. (Our) defense played well, but the Big Foot attack played just well enough to get the win.”

Big Foot was able to get on the board late in the first half, breaking what had been a solid defensive battle between the two teams up to that point. The goal snuck past Whitewater goalkeeper Jimmy Cushman after deflecting off of the left post in the 51st minute of play.

The Whippets’ opponent again mounted an attack that beat Whitewater’s defensive line, and a mere 12 minutes later the Chiefs put the game away for good with its third score of the game.

Overall, Whitewater had nine saves as the Big Foot offense kept up the pressure throughout the match.

With the conference title out of the way, the Whippets fell to St. Anthony 4-1 in the first round of the WIAA playoff Tuesday, bringing their season to an end.
