Girls beat Palmyra, lose to Kenosha, Union Grove

Comets finish season 4-10 in conference

The Delavan-Darien High School girls basketball team finished its regular season of play with a 1-2 record, beating Palmyra-Eagle before dropping games to Kenosha Bradford and Union Grove.

The Comets finish with a 7-15 overall record and 4-10 Southern Lakes Conference record.

Feb. 24 the Comets hosted Palmyra-Eagle in a non-conference game and handed the Panthers a 53-31 loss.

DE 3'6'14 girls bball      After opening the game down 11-9, the Comets offense scored 22 points in the second quarter and held the Panthers to only eight points, taking the 31-19 halftime lead.

The Comets continued to build on their lead in the second half, getting their seventh win of the season.

Jennah Speth paced the Comets with 16 points and Megan Butke added Comets 14 points and six rebounds.

Kylie Collins had 13 points, and Claudia Nieuwenhuis added seven points and four assists.

On Feb. 25, the Comets traveled to Kenosha Bradford for their second non-conference game of the week and struggled offensively, losing 40-24.

Butke and Collins had eight points each.

Thursday the Comets finished their season with a game at Union Grove and again shot poorly, making only 19 percent of their shots and lost, 40-28.

Collins had 14 points, and Nieuwenhuis added five.

The Comets started Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional play Tuesday against Milton. Results of the game were not available at press time.

The winner of the game will face Waterford Friday night in Waterford at 7 p.m.
