Chelminiak is sectional champ at 126

Senior Cody Chelminiak will represent Delavan-Darien High School on Friday at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state wrestling meet.

Chelminiak was the WIAA sectional champion at 126 pounds on Saturday in Waupun, earning him the trip to state.

In the quarterfinal, Chelminiak beat Joseph Brunette of North Fond du Lac, pinning him in 3:08. In the semi-finals, Chelminiak beat Isaac Lodise of Pewaukee by a 6-2 decision.

It was a close championship match, but Chelminiak came out on top, winning a 3-2 decision over Gabe Braam of East Troy.

Chelminiak will wrestle Friday in Madison. He earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of the 11:15 a.m. match between John Roddick of Sparta and Scott Cook of New London.       At 132 pounds, Hunter Gramly finished in third place, just missing a chance to head to the state meet. Gramly finished 1-2.

Other wrestlers for the Comets on Saturday who did not advance were Dan Loomer at 106 pounds and Landon Schramski at 120 pounds.

Ricardo Cruz, wrestling at 220 pounds, also qualified for the sectionals but was unable to attend for medical reasons.
