Travel reviews

There will be a preview of the Vietnam and the California Rail Discovery trips on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.

Find beauty and adventure in Cambodia and Vietnam, Oct. 5-16.

The California Rail Discovery trip is May 14-20 and includes San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and the Napa Valley Wine Train.

Adults of all ages are welcome on these trips. Detailed itineraries are available at www.whitewater-wi.gov, (Departments tab, Seniors in the Park) and at the Starin Park Community Building.

Register for the preview in advance, otherwise it may be canceled for lack of signups.

 

Senior fraud protection

Thursday, Feb. 6, 1 p.m.

Join Michelle Kyhn, Home Instead Senior Care, as she explains how this kit can help seniors and family caregivers stay protected. She will show the latest scams being perpetrated on older adults and offers a variety of resources and tools to help avoid becoming a victim of these scams.

Some of the topics included are: Financial Abuse Tactics, Top Senior Scams, Top 5 Reasons Why Seniors are Targets, and the Impact of Crime on Elderly.

Additionally, Kyhn, will provide you with a series of checklists that can be used to protect yourself. Learn more about whether you or an older adult may be vulnerable to fraud by completing the Criminal Target Scale, which is part of the kit.

This is a free presentation, but sign up is required so enough kits are available.

Deadline to register is Thursday, Jan. 30.

 

Valentine’s Day and “Patsy Cline”

Enjoy a catered lunch with your sweetheart or a friend on Friday, Feb. 14 at noon with a choice of chicken with a mushroom wine sauce or baked tilapia.  After lunch Patsy Cline tribute artist, Karen Wickham will perform.

The cost is $10 and tickets must be purchased by Thursday, Feb. 6.

 

Gadget gurus

UW-Whitewater students will be available to assist with any of your “gadgets” such as smart phones, cameras, tablets, e-readers, laptops, or iPods. Call to reserve a day and time and indicate the brand/model of the gadget in question, and what you need assistance with when calling.

Appointments are available on Thursdays at 1 p.m. or 2 p.m.

Cost is $5 and the deadline is three days in advance.

 

The Seniors in the Park program is for adults ages 55 and older from Whitewater and surrounding areas. There are no fees required to join, nor is there a membership list.
