The East Troy Community Choir and East Troy High School Camerata will combine forces to present Gabriel Faure’s Requiem at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, East Troy.

Admission to the concert is $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

In its ninth year the Masterworks Concert is a unique collaboration, when adults and high school students come together with instrumentalists to present a major choral work for the people of East Troy.

Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) was one of the foremost French composers of his generation, and his musical style influenced many 20th-century composers. His Requiem is among his best-known works.

A Requiem is a Latin Mass for the dead, usually written for a specific occasion and intended for use during a church service. Faure’s Requiem achieved great popularity during his lifetime and remains popular today. It differs in many ways from a traditional Requiem Mass. Rather than taking a predominantly fearful or mournful tone; its overall mood of gentle serenity reflects his belief that death releases us into harmony with all creation.

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra performance

Camerata will also perform the Requiem with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13 at Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, Uihlein Hall, 929 N Water St., Milwaukee.

East Troy was selected, along with three other high school choirs, from a large number of applicants for this prestigious honor.

Each choir will perform separately as well. The East Troy Community Choir will sing four a cappella motets, and Camerata will perform selections from its Jan. 10 concert at the Basilica of St. Josaphat in Milwaukee for the WCDA State Convention.

Tickets are $6 each and can be ordered by emailing choir director Rodger Trader at trarod@easttroy.k12.wi.us or by calling and leaving a message at (262) 642-6760, ext. 5287. The ticket deadline is Friday, Jan. 24.
