Library announces winter activities

The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library will be offering many children’s activities throughout the winter.

Storytime: signup will begin Monday, Jan. 6 with sessions set to start on Monday, Jan. 13. All storytime events are held 10 to 10:45 a.m. on the following weekdays: preschoolers (3-5 year olds) meet on Tuesdays; toddlers (2-3 year olds) meet on Wednesday, and; lapsit children (12-24 months old) meet on Thursdays.

The Winter-Spring weekly storytime themes are as follows: the week of Jan. 13 – Playing in the Snow; Jan. 20 – Penguin Power; Jan. 27 – I Spy Something Orange; Feb. 3 – Pizza, Pizza, Pizza; Feb. 10  – Be My Valentine; Feb. 17 – Shapes; Feb. 24 – Counting Sheep; March 3 – Birthday Surprise; March 10  – no storytime events this week; March 17 – Sometimes Fast/Sometimes Slow; March 24 – Spring Time; March 31 – Bubbly Bubbles; April 7 – Bunny Hop; April 14 – Clouds and Rainbows; April 21 – Bike Rides, and; April 28 – Let’s Go Fly a Kite.

Lego Club: older children, in Kindergarten through fourth grade, are invited to attend Lego Club, a popular group that will meet on the following Tuesdays: Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 18 and April 15. Registration for Lego Club is required.

All Dolled Up:   for kids of all ages the library will offer All Dolled Up, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18. During the program children will make crafts and accessories for their 18-inch dolls. An adult must accompany children under the age of 5. Participants should bring a sack lunch but snacks and drinks will be provided. Signup for All Dolled Up will begin Monday, Jan. 6.

Board Day: another activity the library will offer is Board Day, slated 1-4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24. Play a favorite board game, learn a new game and have the opportunity to meet new friends.

Snow Dogs: the Snow Dogs will return 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15 as part of the City’s Freeze Fest.

YA Gaming: for the older kids the library will offer YA Gaming, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13.

Teen Literacy Day: will be celebrated at the library, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 17.

Snow emergencies: patrons are reminded that if the City of Whitewater declares a Snow Emergency, the library will be closed. If the Whitewater Unified School District closes schools due to weather, the library will not hold storytime events that day.
