Badgers take down Comets

Boys’ basketball wins one, loses one; girls beat Delavan

The Lake Geneva Badger wrestlers dominated Delavan-Darien 55-15 on Dec. 12 in Delavan.

The Comets jumped out to a 12-0 lead on three major decisions by Landon Schramski over Robby Mutimer at 120 pounds, Cody Chelminiak over Michael Peter at 126 pounds and Hunter Gramely over Sam Carmona at 132 pounds. The Comets only scored three points the rest of the match.

Wins for Badger included pins by Zach Leonard at 138 pounds, Tony Howard at 152, Tristan Steiner at 170 and Andrew Nugent at 285. Alex Martinez won by major decision at 113 pounds. Ricardo Cruz at 220 pounds and George Somerville at 106 won by decision.

The Badgers travel to Westosha Central on Thursday and to the Fond Du Lac Invitational on Saturday.

Boys split on week

The boys’ basketball team split its two games last week defeating Westosha Central but falling to Burlington in Southern Lakes Conference action.

The Badgers beat Central 52-43 on the road Dec. 10. The first quarter was the difference as Badger jumped all over the Falcons in building up a 21-12 lead. The rest of the game was even after that, and Badger held on for the win.

Lincoln Wieseman led the Badgers with 18 points. Jake Berhorst chipped in 12. Ben Graveley led the Falcons (3-3, 1-3 SLC) with 15.

Badger (4-3, 2-2) lost at home to Burlington 68-56 on Friday. Badger led by one at the end of one and trailed 27-23 at the half. Badger tied the score going into the fourth quarter, but the Demons (2-4, 2-2) dominated from there, outscoring the Badgers 31-19.

Berhorst led Badger with 19. Jake Kozlowski added 14. Burlington’s Ben Geiger led all scorers with 23. Franklin Hozeska added 14.

Badger plays at Union Grove on Friday and then does not play again until hosting Waukesha South on Jan. 3.

Girls drop Comets

The Badger girls defeated Delavan-Darien at home 49-39 on Dec. 12 in a wild game full of momentum shifts.

Both teams struggled to score in a first quarter that ended in a 4-4 tie. The Badgers (3-1, 1-1) exploded in the second quarter for 21 points and led 25-13 at the half. The Comets (1-4, 0-2) then dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Badgers 16-5 and trailed just 30-29 at the end of three. Badger finished Delavan-Darien off with a 19-10 fourth quarter.

Badger was led by Maria Mieres-Rey with 13 points. Lily Quinn added eight. Kylie Collins led the Comets with nine.

The Badgers traveled to Westosha Central Tuesday night and visit Union Grove on Friday. The Badgers swill host the Badger Invite on Dec. 27 And 28.

Swim beats Jefferson

The Badger swim team defeated Jefferson 132-33 on Dec. 10.

Individual first place finishes were:

• Remy Glogovsky in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.04) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.59);

• Andrew Shane in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.76) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.59);

• Tom Ritzman in the 50-yard freestyle (25.49) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.85);

• Zackary Kieszkowski in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.99); and

• Alex Kulik in the 500-yard freestyle (6:07.05).

Badger also took first in the 200-yard medley (2:00.08), 200-yard freestyle (1:43.38), and the 400-yard freestyle (3:56.10).

Badger took ninth at the Fort Atkinson Invitational on Saturday with 115 points. McFarland won the event with 435.
