New coaches join veterans for winter sports

     The winter sports season has started at Delavan-Darien High School and some new faces have joined the coaching staff along with seasoned veterans.

Returning for his 17th year is Bob Beighton as boys’ varsity basketball coach. Assisting Beighton again this year is Chris Hembrook.

Returning as the junior varsity 1 coach is Lawrence Hudson, and Joe Lopez returns as the junior varsity 2 coach.

Alex Larsen and Jake Rios are assisting Lopez, and Avery Rios is assisting Hudson.

Hank Johnson is back to head up the girls’ program and is returning for his fourth season.

Jeremy Anderson and Bill Alberts are returning as Johnson’s assistants.

Scott Meinshock is new to the girls’ program, taking over as JV1 coach after having previously coached for the boys’ program.

Chloe Nieuwenhuis, a former player under Johnson, will be assisting Meinshock.

Also new this year is Natalie Buhler, who also played for Johnson, and she will be the junior varsity 2 coach.

Nick Hough will assist Buhler.

Dave Markley returns for his second season as boys’ swim coach.

The new head coach to the wrestling program is Justin Cossio, a former wrestler for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Assisting Cossio is Ken Balch, a teacher in the Delavan-Darien School District.
