Police are looking for a man who robbed Walworth State Bank in Williams Bay at gunpoint Friday morning and then fled on foot.
A white man wearing a black ski mask, dark gloves and a tan Carhartt jacket entered the bank at 10:01 a.m., walked up to the counter, displayed a black semi-automatic handgun, placed a bag on the counter and directed the teller to fill it with money, Williams Bay Police Chief Robert Pruessing said.
The teller complied, and the man left the bank with $4,000 to $5,000, Pruessing said. The man is described as about 6 foot to 6 foot, 3 inches and about 240 pounds. Pruessing said the man left the bank on foot but no one saw which direction he went or whether he got into a vehicle or continued on foot.
Williams Bay police, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Village of Fontana police and Town of Delavan police searched the area but had not located the suspect as of noon Friday. Police retrieved surveillance video of the man and expected to release a poster of the suspect.
Williams Bay schools were notified of the suspect at large, Pruessing said. The elementary school brought its students in off the playground, but schools were not advised to lock down, he said.
Faith Christian School was not one that was notified.
