The Elkhorn Area High School girls golf team defeated Lake Geneva Badger 222-251 in a Southern Lakes Conference meet Aug. 30 at Hawks View Golf Course at Lake Geneva.
Audrey Entwistle paced the Elks with a 47. Hanna Grobelny shot a 56, Riley Shirk a 57 and Sally Lesniak a 62.
“That’s her best score of the year,” coach Steve Fisher said of Entwistle. “She had been struggling for a few weeks and working through several different things.”
Fisher said he’d like to see the Elks continue to drop their personal totals and reach the point where the Elks routinely score in the 210-215 range as a team.
Sydney Davis led Badger with a score of 60 on the nine-hole course.
Elkhorn lost to Badger Aug. 28 215-235 at Evergreen Golf Course at Elkhorn.
Grobelny led the Elks with a 52. Entwistle shot a 59, Lesniak a 60 and Shirk a 64. Sarah Rowe finished at 66.
Emily Powers led Waterford with a score of 50.
Fisher said the Wolverines struggled a bit during the meet.
“Not that we were favored to beat them, but when they struggled as they did you want to give them more of a run for their money,” Fisher said.
The Elks also competed Aug. 27 in a Ryder Cup-style invitational against Union Grove, Westosha Central and Wilmot at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville.
The teams played the first six holes in a best ball format, where the duo plays as normal and the better player’s score counts.
During the second six holes the players competed in a scramble format, in which the competitors played off the best drive of the duo.
Over the final six holes the players competed under alternate shot rules.
Wilmot’s Brittany Loveless and McKenzie Ostrander won in the best ball format.
Elkhorn’s Grobelny and Shirk won the scramble and Union Grove’s Mari Suokko and Emily Garbie won the alternate shot title.
Union Grove won the team score (286). Wilmot finished second (291), Westosha Central third (293) and Elkhorn fourth (318).
The Elks played Sept. 4 against Westosha at Evergreen and play today against Union Grove at Ives Grove Golf Links in Sturtevant.
