State streak reaches 17th year for tennis team

Goode and Kloth advance for second straight year

The East Troy High School girls tennis team will play in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state girls individual tennis tournament for the 17th consecutive season.

Seniors Abi Goode and Paige Kloth return to state where they finished in the top 16 last season. They will take on sixth seeded Ellie Grossen and Chandra McGuire of Monroe on Thursday afternoon at Nielson tennis stadium in Madison.

The Trojan’s are the only public school in the state in Division 2 to make it every year since the private schools and public schools merged in 2000. The Trojan’s started the streak three years earlier in 1997 when Jeanene Ennis and Ann Hubbard qualified in doubles. That same team medaled fourth in 1998. Each and every year since, East Troy has been at the state tournament.

“Our program is proud of the streak,” said head coach Dave Lindow. “Our program is like one big extended family and I love to here from many of our alumni every year around state.”

Lindow liked the draw they received at the tournament.

“Our draw is great if we are looking to get into the medal round,” said Lindow. “Sure, we could have had an easier first round but I know our team is capable of winning against the sixth seeded Cheesmakers.”

In 1999, the Trojan’s Dawn Schuller and Laura Wruck faced off with Monroe who was seeded third in the tournament and knocked them off on the way to a top eight finish.

“This team is very similar to that team and I hope we can come home with the same result,” said Lindow.

Kloth and Goode (23-2) both have over 70 career wins and have plenty of experience. They have won back-to-back conference championships at No. 1 doubles.

“They will give it there all,” stated Lindow. “No matter what happens, these two will be proud of what they accomplished and they have meant a great deal to me and our program.”
