Tucked away on the far north end of Elkhorn, directly across from Evergreen Golf Club, is a treasure.
Drive up route 12/67 to 10 W. Evergreen Parkway No. 3B. Park your vehicle in the spacious parking lot, and step through the glass doors of the main entrance. Walk across the ornate tile floor while letting the enticing aromas captivate your senses.
The treasure is here, just beyond the gleaming glass counter in every imaginable flavor: coffee.
Today, many coffee enthusiasts feel differently. Espressos are tasty, and a cappuccino is a pleasurable indulgence. Nowadays, numerous coffee machines in the market can make various kinds of coffee with just a push of a button. It may not be suitable for a household but coffee shops can be a better fit for these machines. So if you have a coffee shop or a café, these commercial coffee machines may be of interest. That said, all things considered, the real magic is found in a cup of black coffee prepared to order with beans from the latest harvest.
No matter what your caffeine fix calls for, Tim Skoumal, owner of the Well Bean Café, has you covered with everything from medium roasts to flavored coffee.
And, if you were to sit down over a cup of Jo with Skoumal and ask why he started his business roughly four years ago, you’d hear what has become the classic American tale.
According to Skoumal, he left the monotonous day-to-day shuffle of the corporate world because of the economic uncertainty, but more so because customer service is in his blood.
Skoumal’s parents were involved with old-fashioned ice cream parlors for many years. Here Skoumal’s reasonability was in production and staff management.
Ultimately, what Skoumal said he enjoyed the most was seeing people leave the parlors with smiles on their faces. Those smiles have stuck with him.
“When I got laid off from my previous job a couple years ago I asked myself ‘Do I want to go work for some other place and get laid off five years down the road, or do I want try something of my own?” he said.
“I was familiar with customer service because of my parents’ ice cream parlor, so I decided to try my hand at this, coffee,” he added.
What’s on Skoumal shelves? The Well Bean Café serves Steep & Brew Coffee, which is a Madison-based coffee roaster founded in 1979.
“When I decided I was going to do this I did a lot of research, and found the people at Steep & Brew were great to work with. They helped me through all the steps, and it’s been received really well … people love our coffee.”
Skoumal doesn’t just stop at coffee, the Well Bean Café also offers healthy grain paninis and a myriad of natural baked goods, ciders, as well as specialty teas. In addition, Skoumal hopes to branch out into cold sandwiches this fall.
“Not everyone had 10 minutes to wait for a Panini,” he noted.
If catering is what you need, the Well Bean Café has you covered.
“We do cater and we also deliver,” Skoumal said.
The Well Bean Café is open Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
“I am planning to stay open later starting in the fall,” Skoumal noted. “I’ll be staying open until 5 p.m., and then maybe increase that to 7 p.m.”
In closing, Skoumal said potential patrons can expect to find unmatched customer service at the Well Bean Café.
“We stress A+++ customer service,” he said. “You will not get better customer service anywhere else.”
“Our coffee is really good too,” Skoumal added. “The product sells itself, and we have very good product.”
