Several swimmers earn top-eight finishes

The Whitewater High School Whippets girls swim team finished fourth at what head coach Gina Foucault described as a very fast Elkhorn invite held Sept. 14.

According to Foucault, the team “tried to mix up some of our relays so we could put more relays into the Top 8 and did just that in the 200 Medley Relays.”

Sydney Zimdars, Kara Ketterhagen, Sara Foucault and Madeline Kuhl earned fifth place while the team of Sydney Hackney, Callie Hebert, Debra Krebs and Jacquelyn Caldwell finished eighth.

Foucault also said swimmers Cristina Rodriguez and Olimpia Soto swam really well “after being asked on Friday if they would attend and swim this meet. Thanks (to them) for being such great team players.”

Several girls earned medals by finishing in the top 8: Sydney Zimdars, 5th, 200 freestyle and 4th, 400 freestyle; Sara Foucault, 2nd, 200 IM and 2nd, 100 butterfly; Callie Hebert, 3rd, 200 IM and 1st, 100 breaststroke; Kassie Yeazel, 2nd, 50 freestyle and 3rd, 100 freestyle; Anna Yeazel, 8th, 100 breaststroke; Debra Krebs, 3rd, 100 backstroke and 5th, 100 butterfly.

The coach said many girls had outstanding races including Olimpia Soto, who “is really starting to figure out how to race the 200 freestyle, which is exciting to watch. I can’t wait to see how fast she gets as the year goes on,” Foucault said.

“Sydney Hackney continues to impress with two solid swims in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke and freshman Madeline Kuhl continues to improve with each meet,” she added.

Overall, according to Foucault, the team is very solid and has strengths in many different events.
