City bumps salary for deputy clerk position

While a professional has not yet assumed the vacant position of deputy clerk at Whitewater City Hall, his or her salary has already been established.

The Common Council last week voted to set the salary at a little more than $31,000 during the person’s first year of employment with the city.

The compensation figure is a bump up from what the city of Whitewater had been offering deputy clerks in the past.

“The recent recruitment process for the deputy clerk position resulted in an evaluation, by staff, of the pay scale of the position,” City Manager Cameron Clapper said.

“(A new salary resolution) identifies the deputy clerk position … is a much more competitive scale and better reflects the trend in wages for positions with similar responsibilities in other communities,” Clapper added.

The previous deputy clerk received $1.53 less per hour, or $3,182 less annually for the position.

The new salary was consummated when the Common Council voted to amend the city’s existing salary resolution for 2013. This was the fourth such amendment this year.

The city of Whitewater has a five-tiered wage chart for professional and technical employees. The low end of the pay scale is $31,365, while the upper end reaches $79,147.
