Elkhorn has received its first mayoral candidate for the 2014 spring elections.

Alderman Brian Olson announced he would be running for mayor during the spring election cycle. In an earlier announcement, Mayor Howie Reynolds informed the Independent he would not be seeking re-election to another term.

“I want to preserve the past, be responsible with the present and prepare for the future,” Olson said. “I want to continue to serve in a different role, to continue some of the items that I started.”

Olson added the priorities of his campaign will include:

• Building positive relationships with the Elkhorn Area School District;

• Continue to improve the city’s parks; and

• Bring new ideas to the council

“My record shows that I have brought new ideas to the table and have followed them through successfully,” Olson said. “I have seen a resurgence of young folks on the city council and some great team work. I think that the council is showing great leadership and I think that I have the skills to continue with that.”

Olson, who owns his own business, is a manufacturers’ representative in the plastics industry. Olson, his wife, Andrea, and their four children, have lived in Elkhorn for ten years. He attended Arizona State University and has a degree in Business.

Olson said he doesn’t have a website yet, but he has an email for his constituents, brianaolson@plasticrep.com.
