Village raze order comes due next week

It looks like the two burned-out buildings on the Village Square will be coming down soon.

The East Troy Village Board on Monday discussed possible action “to remedy the remains” of two buildings at 2877/2883 Main Street and 2113 Church Street.

A two-alarm fire gutted both buildings on April 26. The village subsequently issued a raze order with a 60-day completion window that expires next week, according to Village Administrator Judy Weter.

In a letter sent recently by the village to the property owners off the properties officials stated the “Village of East Troy is very saddened at the loss of your property in the April fire – this has been a great loss to you and our community. We know that you are working toward completion of the clean up and want to thank you for your diligence.”

It continued, however, by saying, the “Village of East Troy has continued interest in the progress you are making on your property.”

“I talked with one owner (on June 17) and the documents were almost signed, so that the razing could take place immediately,” Village President Randy Timms said. “Everything is pretty much signed, sealed and delivered at this stage.”

The primary reason for the raze orders appearing on the Village Board agenda was precautionary in nature, according to Timms. With a full slate of upcoming seasonal events, the board previously desired to act upon the razing of the both buildings to “make sure they were coming down,” Timms said.

The board took no further action.
