It was a mixed week for the Delavan-Darien High School girls’ soccer team as it won the Cudahy Invite on Saturday, but lost its first Southern Lakes Conference game May 9 to Lake Geneva Badger.

To start the week, the Comets handed Wilmot a 6-0 loss.

The Comets (7-2-1, 3-1-0) beat the Panthers in Wilmot on May 7, and Amanda McLernon led the scoring barrage with four goals. McLernon scored the first four goals for the Comets, with two coming in the first half and two to start the second half of action.

Bridget Cahill and Emily Zugay scored goals five and six respectively.

Picking up assists for the Comets were Zugay with two and Ally Doerr with two.

The tough Comet defense held the Panthers to only two shots on goal and Macie Hill recorded one save.

On May 9, the Comets hosted Lake Geneva Badger and suffered their second loss of the season and first conference loss, losing 3-2.

The Comets got on the board first at the 13-minute mark after Zugay scored, with the assist by Kaylee Rowland.

Almost 20 minutes later, the Badgers put themselves on the board, making it 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Comets wasted no time in the second half to take the lead when Doerr scored off the assist by Zugay, putting the Comets ahead 2-1.

Late in the game, the Comets were unable to stop the Badger defense and they scored goals at the 63- and 75-minute marks to get the 3-2 victory.

Hill recorded seven saves.

Saturday the team traveled to Cudahy and started its day with a 4-0 win over Milwaukee Ronald Reagan.

Ellen Schutt scored two goals in the win and Zugay and Claudia Nieuwenhuis had one each.

Cahill, Kylie Collins and Clarissa Roman all had an assist.

Up next for the Comets was Cudahy, and the Comets had their second shutout of the day, winning 4-0.

Kylie Bliss, Schutt, Collins and Roman all scored in the game.

Collins, Nieuwenhuis and Hannah Boutelle had the assists.

In the championship game against Thomas More, it was a battle of the defenses as the game was scoreless when regulation time ended.

Going into a shootout, the Comets converted on three out of three attempts and Hill held Thomas More scoreless, giving the Comets the 1-0 victory and championship title.

Bliss, Schutt and Nicky Sterken all scored in the shootout.

Tonight is Senior Night at D-DHS, and the Comets will host Burlington starting at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday the Comets start Southern Lakes Conference tournament action. Opponent, time and place have yet to be determined.
