Baseball loses three, wins one

Comets beat Edgerton 8-5

The Delavan-Darien High School baseball team went 1-3 last week, picking up its only win against Edgerton on Saturday.

The Comets (4-11) dropped two close Southern Lakes Conference games, losing to Union Grove 1-0 on May 6and then losing again to the Broncos on May 7, 5-4.

Saturday the Comets traveled to Edgerton and beat Edgerton 8-5 but lost to Fort Atkinson, 7-3.

In Union Grove on May 6, it was a pitcher’s duel that lasted 12 innings before the Broncos scored a run in the bottom of the 12th to get the 1-0 win.

Brendan Huber pitched seven innings for the Comets, and Bryce Davis came into the game in the eighth inning and took the loss.

Isiah Ramos had two hits to lead the Comets and Scott Buhler, Isaac Ramos, Huber, Micah Heath and Devin Salas each had one hit in the game.

On May 7, the Comets hosted the Broncos and after the Broncos took a two-run lead to start the game, the Comets put one run on the board in the bottom of the first.

Buhler started things off with a single, and Huber hit a double for the Comets.

Buhler scored when Heath hit into a fielder’s choice, making it 2-1.

Both teams were scoreless in the second inning but the Broncos made it 4-1 in the top of the third inning.

The Comets also scored in the third after Buhler doubled and scored on a wild pitch, pulling the Comets within two at 4-2.

The Broncos added a run in the fourth inning, taking the 5-2 lead.

Orin Jenks hit a single in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored on a single by Isiah Ramos, making it a 5-3 game.

After holding the Broncos scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings the Comets came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning and Jenks walked to start the inning. Avampato reached on a fielder’s choice and Isiah Ramos singled, scoring Avampato, pulling the Comets within a run at 5-4.

That was the last run for the Comets, and they went on to lose, 5-4.

Seitz took the loss, and Isiah Ramos had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Comets.

Buhler also had two hits in the game.

In the Comets’ 8-5 win over Edgerton, Huber had the win, striking out four and walking one.

Isaac Ramos had two hits and three RBIs to pace the Comets, and Nolan Dodge added two hits.

Buhler had one hit, a double which came with bases loaded, giving him three RBIs.

In the Comets 7-3 loss to Fort Atkinson, Heath recorded the loss, and Buhler had two hits to pace the Comets.

Tonight the Comets travel to Elkhorn for a 4:30 p.m. game and Friday night will host Wilmot at 4:30 p.m. in their last regular season game.

Tuesday the Comets start Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Regional action.
