Student taken into custody after potential bomb scare

As a result of the Elkhorn Police Department’s ongoing investigation, a 16-year-old student was immediately taken into custody after concerns of a potential threat May 9 at Elkhorn Area High School.

According to a news release from the police department, information received from a concerned student indicated another student had expressed threats to possibly cause damage and harm to others at Elkhorn Area High School.

The information communicated indicated the juvenile might be planning to take action in years to come, according to the release.

The initial investigation revealed there was no immediate threat to any student, staff or visitor to the building.

The suspect has been referred to juvenile authorities on a charge of bomb scares.

The Elkhorn Police Department and Elkhorn Area School District worked in cooperation to ensure the safety of all students and staff during the investigation.

“This incident serves as a reminder that an important component of school safety is open communication and relationships within the community,” Elkhorn Police Department Captain Jon Anzalone stated in the release.
