In a rematch from three days earlier, the East Troy High School girls soccer team avenged a loss Friday by defeating Whitewater 4-1 at Whitewater Monday.

“We completely dominated,” head coach Mike Bottum said. “We outshot them 20-3. A very nice effort.”

Whitewater scored first in the eighth minute off an unusual goal. Bottom indicated that an East Troy defender was clearing the ball and it went off a Whitewater player and into the goal.

The Trojans tied it in the 15th minute. Monica Zoellner scored off a corner kick from McKayla Spurlock.

East Troy took the lead for good 32 minutes into the game when Brianna Casper headed the ball into the net off a cross from Olivia Healey.

That gave the Trojan girls a 2-1 lead at the half.

In the second half, East Troy scored in the 57th minute off a breakaway when Spurlock connected the Casper, who put it into the net for her second goal of the night.

The fourth Trojan goal was scored eight minutes later when Zoellner scored off a cross from Casper.

Bottum noted that this was Casper’s first game at full strength after being ill for about 10 days.

Bottum singled out the play of sisters, Brianna and Natalie Probst.

“They controlled the midfield and did a lot of nice passing and marking,” Bottum said.

Bottum added that the difference between this game and the loss three days earlier was the confidence the girls had in their teammates.

With the victory, East Troy is now 3-3 in Rock Valley Conference action, and 3-7-1 overall.

Friday’s game

In a game initially scheduled to be played at Whitewater, the Trojans hosted Whitewater Friday and fell 2-1 to the Whippets.

Whitewater scored two goals to take a 2-0 lead which it held until late in the second half when the Trojans found the back of the net.

The East Troy goal was scored by Zoellner in the 68th or 69th minute with an assist going to Genevieve Baldwin.

East Troy maintained extensive pressure throughout the game.

“We just couldn’t get the ball in the net,” Bottum said.

After Zoellner’s goal, Bottum indicated that the ball was in the Whitewater end the remaining five minutes of the game, with East Troy’s goalkeeper at half field.
