Police are investigating a fire that damaged two buildings on East Troy’s historic village square early this morning.
The large blaze was reported at 1:51 a.m. on Friday on the corner of Main and Church streets, according to Village of East Troy Police Chief Alan Boyes.
Firefighters from four different departments, including the East Troy Volunteer Fire Department, battled the flames and smoke pouring out of the buildings for about four hours.
Boyes said the building at 2877 Main St. that housed Peddler Resale Shop and Synergy HomeCare and four upstairs apartments and one lower level apartment was deemed a total loss.
The adjacent building, which housed KB’s Barbershop and two apartments, was heavily damaged.
No injuries have been reported.
Firefighters and Village of East Troy Police officers and Walworth County Sheriff’s deputies remained on the scene this morning.
Officials from the Red Cross have set up shop at neighboring business Red Door Café, 2887 Main St., to provide assistance.
Boyes said the state fire marshal is helping with the investigation, but it’s too early to tell if this is an accidental or suspicious fire.
