Shirley Dettman, who lives a few doors away from Third District Alderman Ryan Schroeder, received this absentee ballot – a white First District ballot with First District Alderman Mary O’Connor’s name on it. Third District absentee voters should have received blue ballots with Schroeder and opponent Chris Lindloff’s names on them.

When Second District resident Arlene Hessler received an absentee ballot in the mail March 12 with the names Chris Lindloff and Ryan Schroeder on it, she knew something was wrong.

Schroeder and Lindloff are candidates for Delavan’s Third District aldermanic seat.

Hessler knew her Second District ballot should have the names of the candidates Hessler said she had to choose from in the primary election – Chris Phillips, Ron Grair and Sam Riggs. Riggs was eliminated in the primary.

Third District resident Beverley Archambault received a Second District ballot, which she marked and returned and didn’t realize the mistake until Schroeder called her to ask if his name was on her ballot.

Schroeder said he had heard some ballots were incorrect and was trying to determine if the problem was isolated or city-wide. Archambault said she then remembered his name was not on the ballot but she had already sent hers in.
