Elkhorn’s Parker Christensen ran roughshod over the field and returned home victorious following the WIAA Girls Tennis Individual Championships Oct. 13-15 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Christensen lost just 10 games in five matches and won the WIAA Division 1 state championship in singles play.

Christensen’s 6-0, 6-1 victory over Muskego’s Emily Pan in the final ensured her an undefeated season at 31-0.

“This is a huge accomplishment for her,” Elks coach Adam Westhhauer said. “I’m so proud of her and all the hard work, effort and time she has put in during the season and outside the season.”

Christensen entered the state tournament as the No. 1 seed in the singles field. She qualified for state after winning the No. 1 singles flight Oct. 5 in a Division 1 sectional tournament at Stoughton High School.

Christensen beat Madison Memorial’s Sophia Jiang 6-3, 6-1 in her first match at state and followed up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Homestead’s Ritu Nair.

In the quarterfinals, Christensen defeated ninth-seeded Netra Somasundaram 6-3, 6-0. Christensen beat fourth-seeded Natalie Stanula of Milwaukee Ronald Reagan 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals before defeating the seventh-seeded Pan for the title.

Christensen finished second at state in Division 1 singles play last season as a freshman. Christensen lost a tight match in three sets to Franklin’s Franklin’s Kaede Usui.
