Conference North and South Division leaders East Troy and Brodhead.

The third loss came Feb. 21 at East Troy, as the Trojans handled the Whippets 68-48. East Troy is ranked No. 2 in the state in Division 3, while Whitewater is ranked No. 6 in Division 2.

The loss gives the Whippet girls a 19-3 overall record going into postseason action.

Whitewater emerged with an 18-15 lead after one quarter but could not maintain that lead in the second, as the Trojans surged past the Whippets 18-4 in the second quarter to take a 33-22 halftime lead.

“East Troy is a very good team, and they proved it,” head coach Judy Harms said.

East Troy’s Rachel Atchison, who led all players with 20 points, was hot from three-point range, knocking down six of seven. Andrea Olson added 17 for the Trojans and Breanna Gaspervich 11.

“We tried several different defenses, however couldn’t quite match up in anything to stop all of their players,” Harms said. “We did a good job taking care of the ball, and edged East Troy in rebounds. Bottom line, East Troy is playing really good ball and are on the road to repeat a state appearance.”

Brooke Trewyn led Whitewater with 15 points, with Kailey Reynolds adding 13, and Sarah Schumacher nine.

Both teams shot well from the free-throw line with East Troy knocking down 13 of 14, and Whitewater 13 of 16.

The difference in the game was three-point shooting, as East Troy made nine threes, while Whitewater had one.

Harms added that she commended her players for controlling their emotions and handling the loss with class.
